Recon Jack

Photo of Brad's Tattoo.

This weekend I was lucky enough to learn about the Recon Jack image from Brad – thank you. Brad recently finished his service and is going to school now. The image basically represents being a “Jack of all Trades.” The parachute and wing represents the airborne capability, and combatant diver on the other side represents diving capability.  The the three bullet holes in the forehead and crack along the skull all have their own separate meaning. It is an amazing image and I feel lucky to know about it.

The image became even more powerful when I heard the creed. I think anyone who has faced challenges in life can relate and feel empowered by it.

THE RECON CREED

Realizing it is my choice and my choice alone
to be a Reconnaissance Marine,
I accept all challenges involved with this profession.
Forever shall I strive to maintain the tremendous reputation
of those who went before me.

Exceeding beyond the limitations
set down by others shall be my goal.
Sacrificing personal comforts and dedicating myself
to the completion of the reconnaissance mission shall be my life.
Physical fitness, mental attitude, and high ethics –

The title of Recon Marine is my honor.

Conquering all obstacles, both large and small,
I shall never quit.
To quit, to surrender, to give up is to fail.
To be a Recon Marine is to surpass failure;
To overcome, to adapt and to do whatever it takes
to complete the mission.

On the battlefield, as in all areas of life,
I shall stand tall above the competition.
Through professional pride, integrity, and teamwork,
I shall be the example
for all Marines to emulate.

Flower Floats – The Rose Bowl

October 29, 2009 foreverbird 1 comment

Interesting how much work goes into one time art events…. art that is not intended to last for more than a day. I guess that is why we take pictures and video! I think the Rose Parade is a great example of temporary art…

Photos I took of the Rose Bowl as a kid... who knows when... maybe 1995?

I’m happy I found a cool blog today, gapingvoid, by the cartoonist Hugh MacLeod.

I was browsing google images with the keyword ‘love’ and I saw his great image, Love Begets Love.

What drives you?

Sketchbook Drawing

Sketchbook Drawing

I’m reading the Purpose Driven Life. The basic idea is to read a chapter a day – for 40 days. This drawing is from the 3rd chapter. The idea is to think about how purpose adds meaning and motivation to life. It also talks about other motivating feelings – guilt, anger, fear, greed… etc.

Some other transformation (daily practice) stuff I like: This Book Will Change Your Life , Be Here Now , Each Day a New Beginning , Medicine Cards

It’s fun to try
